Also in Melbourne accommodation is really expensive, and a lot of places were already fully booked.
But, in the end, we were really lucky to find a nice apartment in the St.Kilda-Neighbourhood, just 10 to 15 minutes from the City Centre by tram.
Really handy to have a little bit of extra living-space for our last days in Australia, before catching up with our group for the New Zealand-Trip.
Our first day, we started with staying in our apartment and just a bit of relaxing.
Then, late afternoon we had a stroll downtown, and went to a nice Dumpling Restaurant for diner.
The next day, we had a bit of a lie-in, and took some time for our Travel-Administration and planning for the rest of the Pacific.
In the afternoon we had a short visit to the St.Kilda-beach, and after diner, we headed our way to the Rectangular Stadium to watch the Opening-Game of the World Cup Rugby, between Australia and Engeland.
Engeland had a good start with the first try. (0-4).
But in the end Australia was too strong, and won the game with 18-4.
First time we went to a Rugby-game, and some people told us that this game could be also the final at the end of the tournament.
On the 28th of October, we had a slow start of the day. (Again)
In the afternoon we did some sightseeing downtown Melbourne.
And for diner we catched up with Jos, 1 of my ex-colleagues from approx 10 years ago when I was still working in the dredging industry (Boskalis).
Really nice to meet again after so many years.
On sunday we went to the city-centre again for a tour around the Old Melbourne Goal, the former main prison of Melbourne.
Here we could discover the dark history of Victoria’s oldest surviving prison.
With afterwards also the experience of being locked-up in the watch-house.
With a Charge Sergeant as guide, visitors are ‘arrested’ and encounter what it is like to be locked up.
In the afternoon we took some time to rest, and pack all our stuff together.
After diner we went to the airport, where we catched up with 10 more Belgian participants that I (Bart) will guide around New Zealand for the Belgian Touroperator Joker, for 4 weeks.
